Shale Shaker screen is the wear part of shale shaker, mainly classified into soft sieve screen, sieve plate type screen, and frame plate type screen.

Selection of a screen is a compromise between solids removal, circulating rate and the life expectancy of a screen. Generally, two types of repairable screens are available for most shakers. The first is a perforated metal plate to which one or more layers of fine screen cloth are bonded. The second type is similar to the first except the metal backing plate is corrugated to increase the square feet of available screen area in the same footprint as a flat type screen. Shale shakers use fine mesh screens to remove solids larger than the opening sizes. Some relatively new screen designations have been introduced by API RP13C and will be discussed before discussing shale shakers.

Shale Shaker Screens are primary and probably most important device on the rig for removing drilled solids from the mud. This vibrating sieve is simple in concept, but a bit more complicated to use efficiently.

Use of Shaker Screen

Shaker screens are used to separate solids from liquids (mud), typically sand or other heavy materials. Shaker screens on a shale shaker work by suspending the solid material in fluid and rocking it back and forth through a screen mesh until they become separated.
